On October 27, Professor Sun Binyong, a 93rd grade alumnus of the High School Attached to Tsinghua University, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and mathematician, returned to his Alma mater to share mathematical research with the students and celebrate the 108th anniversary of the founding of the High School Attached to Tsinghua University。More than 20 people, including Principal Fang Yan, Deputy Party Secretary Zhang Jie, Vice President Xu Wenbing, Deputy Secretary of the Alumni Association Wang Yingmin, representatives of mathematics teaching and research group and students from all grades who love mathematics, participated in the discussion and exchange。

Academician Sun Binyong briefly introduced his own research field, reviewed his own study and research road, especially the growth experience of studying in Tsinghua High School, and answered the questions of the students。Students actively asked questions about group theory, theoretical mathematics and applied mathematics, mathematical competitions and university mathematics knowledge, as well as questions about personal development such as how to treat research bottlenecks, independent thinking and communication and cooperation, and innovative talents。Academician Sun Binyong always answers questions and tells his story。The students listened carefully, gained valuable advice in the in-depth exchanges, and also felt the humble, simple, rigorous and realistic academic style of the senior。

The communication between alumni and alumni is more like a family conversation, less formality and more patience. Academician Sun Binyong said that the study of mathematics should be combined with physics, chemistry, computer and other disciplines。Mathematics is to find the right answer in countless trials and errors, so is learning, work and life。He hopes that students can also feel the charm of life in the process of learning mathematics。Tsinghua Affiliated High School inherits not only knowledge but also the spirit and strength of the people attached to it. I wish my Alma mater will do better and better。

Finally, Academician Sun Binyong presented his papers to the students, and sent a message to the students to stick to their love, study hard, and contribute to the development of basic science of the motherland。

Sun Binyong Alumni Profile:

Sun Binyong is a graduate of the first National Science Experimental Class (Class 937) of the High School Affiliated to Tsinghua University. He was recommended to study in the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University。He received his bachelor's degree from Zhejiang University in 1999 and his doctorate degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2004. He has been working at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2005 and was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019。He is now a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Advanced Mathematics of Zhejiang University。His research areas include the representation theory of Lie groups, automorphic forms and Langlands program, especially in the infinite-dimensional representation theory of typical groups, L-functions and the fundamental problems of their interrelations。Several of his papers have been published in top mathematical journals，He has won the Chen Jiageng Young Science Award (2014), the China Outstanding Young Science and Technology Talent Award (2016), the Chinese Academy of Sciences Young Scientist Award (2016), and the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (2018).，He was a member of the 12th All-China Youth Federation。In 2022, he was invited to give a 45-minute talk at the International Congress of Mathematicians。
